Pack 802 Events
Popcorn
Sales - We only do 1
fundraiser - this is it. It starts at our first pack meeting in
September. Scouts earn cool prizes, and the money they earn helps
pay
for the handbooks, pinewood derby cars, badges and other awards.
Sales
are completed and turned in at the October Pack Meeting. Popcorn
is usually
delivered in November, and prizes are awarded at the Blue & Gold
Banquet in February.
Tiger
Day
- This is usually held on the first or second Saturday of
October. For
Tigers & their parents only - Boy Scouts will have activities with
the Tiger Cubs, Parents will attend a meeting on what Tiger Cubs &
Cub Scouting is all about. Tiger
Cubs who attend can earn a patch.
Cub & Family Camp -
This is held on the 3rd Saturday and Sunday of October @ Camp Bovay
near Navasota. Usually starts around 11:00am and ends the next
day at
9:00am. All Cub Scout Packs from the Arrowmoon District will be
present. Our pack camps together. Everyone brings their own
food and camping gear. Some families come out just for the day,
but plan to stay for the evening campfire. The scouts participate
in
many
activities to earn beads/badges/silver bullets/arrowheads, attend flag
ceremonies, campfire, etc. Scouts who attend will earn a patch.
Webelos
Woods - This is a special camp for Webelos and their parents
usually held on the first or second weekend of November. Webelos II are STRONGLY encouraged to
attend. Siblings and scouts of other ranks are not
invited. This is a district gathering of Boy Scout Troops.
There will be many activities for the Webelos that are supervised by
the various Boy Scout Troops which are specifically designed to help
Webelos II earn achievements that fulfill the Arrow of Light
requirements. This is the highest honor a Cub Scout can earn, and it is
the ONLY award that carries from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts.
Pinewood Derby - This event
is
held in January. Each scout is given a Pinewood Derby Car kit as
a
gift in December. Scouts should create any car that they like
(following the official derby rules and regulations) with the help of
their Akela. The derby takes place on a Saturday afternoon from
12:00-4:30 with prizes for den winners, pack winners, sibling/parent
car winners, and coolest cars!
Scouting for Food
- This event
is held on a Saturday at the end of January and beginning of
February.
Our
pack will head to a neighborhood to hang grocery bags on doors to let
people know we will be collecting food the following Saturday. We
will
return to the neighborhood the next week to pick up the food to bring
to the food pantry.
Blue & Gold Banquet - This
event is held in February, in honor of the birthday of Lord
Baden-Powell, the founder of Scouting. The pack provides the main
course and the rest is a potluck banquet. This banquet starts an
hour
earlier than the regular pack meeting so that there is time to
eat.
There is usually a theme. Scouts will receive awards - many will
have
earned their official rank and be awarded at this meeting. Den
leaders
will be put into silly situations for our amusement! Your
entire family is welcome to come.
Camporee
- This is
also a special camp for Webelos and their parents. It is usually
held on the third or fourth weekend in March. Webelos II are STRONGLY encouraged to
attend. Siblings and scouts of other ranks are not
invited. This is a
district gathering of Boy Scout Troops. There
will be many activities for the Webelos that are supervised by Boy
Scouts. This is the time for parents and scouts
to check out the
various local Boy Scout Troops to find out which one the scout would
like to join when
he bridges from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts after earning his Arrow of
Light usually in March/April (for Webelos II).
Pack 802
Campout - This is a special event just for our Pack. We
will head out to camp with our families on a Saturday/Sunday in the
spring. Everyone brings their own food and camping gear. We have
camped in the Scout Area at Lake Bryan where you can find bike trails,
fishing, swimming, and hiking. Some families come out just for
the day. The campfire at the end of the day is a lot of fun - and
may even be a part of the Arrow of Light Bridging Ceremony for the
Webelos II that have earned this honor.
Rocket Derby - This event
is
held on a Saturday morning in May, usually following the last Pack
Meeting of
the school year. Scouts, siblings, and parents bring rockets to
launch. The pack provides B class engines - and we launch them
until
we run out of engines! The scouts have a great time retrieving the
rockets and getting them ready to launch again and again and again!
Cub
Scout Summer Day Camp - This is run by the Arrowmoon
District. Cub scouts earn badges, silver bullets. arrowheads, and
participate in many activities that earn achievements for their new
rank. Usually 8:00am-4:00pm, Monday-Friday during the third week
of June. Many, many, many parent volunteers are needed to help with
summer day camp. Free training is provided. If you send your
scout to camp, please try to be an adult walking leader for at least
one day of camp. Sibling Camp/Care is offered for siblings of
scouts whose parents are day camp volunteers. Webelos II do not
attend Summer Day Camp as they graduate to a Boy Scout Troop in March
or April of their 5th grade year.

New to Scouting?
Cost
- Pack 802 asks for $45.00 per scout for the year. The $45.00 helps to
pay for pack events, patches, and other pack related things. Each
Cub Scout will receive a subscription to Boys Life
with his registration fee. The Cub Scout can earn money through
our
popcorn fundraiser at the beginning of the year, and a portion of that
money
is kept
in an account just for him. The fundraiser goes to
helping your child to pay for summer camp and in the case of Webelos
II, the special Arrow of Light award.
Cub
Scouts are divided into groups of Tigers
(age 7 and/or grade 1), Wolves
(age 8 and/or grade 2) Bears
(age 9 and/or grade 3) Webelos I
(age 10 and or grade 4) and Webelos II
(age 11 and/or grade 5).
When you join Cub Scouting, you
will be a member of a den. Only other Scouts in your age/grade
will be a
member of your den. Most dens have five to nine scouts with a den
leader and any number of assistant den leaders. Dens usually meet
twice a month. They may have regular den meetings at a scout's
home, at the school or at the church who charters our pack.
The den also
takes part in the monthly
Pack Meetings. Pack Meetings are a gathering of all of the dens
in our pack - from Tiger Cubs to Webelos II scouts. It is a
meeting where scouts are awarded for the achievements they've earned in
their work with their dens.
Pack meetings usually follow a
monthly theme suggested by the Boy Scouts of America They begin with a
flag ceremony. Each den will take turns being responsible for the
flag ceremony and the monthly entertainment activity during the pack
meeting. We strongly encourage our scouts to share their
projects, skits, and accomplishments with family and friends at the
monthly pack meetings. Some elective and achievements even
require sharing your projects with your den or pack.
The pack will
provide the appropriate Cub
Scout Handbook when a new Cub joins our pack. Webelos use
their handbook for the 2 years they are working on the
Webelos rank. Achievements and awards are also provided for the
scouts as they are
earned.
Scouts will need to
purchase a uniform consisting of:
Tigers:
A Shirt
(buy the
blue one, maybe a little big as you can wear it until Webelos II level),
A Neckerchief (the
orange one)
The Tiger Slide (It's golden and carries the Tiger logo),
A Belt (blue with
the Cub Scout logo).
Wolves:
A Shirt
(buy the
blue one, maybe a little big as you can wear it until Webelos II level),
A Neckerchief (the
yellow one)
The Wolf Slide (It's golden and carries the Wolf logo),
A Belt (blue with
the Cub Scout logo).

joining this year, buy the brown one - this shirt can carry through to
Boy Scouts. Webelos I can still wear their blue shirt if they
have come up through the ranks of scouting and already have one, but
Webelos II need the brown shirt.)
A Neckerchief (the
plaid one)
The Webelos Slide (It's golden and carries the Webelos logo),
A Belt (blue with
the Cub Scout logo).
Webelos

and gold ribbon hanging down)
Hats are optional.
All Scouts
need to purchase the following patches
for their uniforms:
Den Patch (you
won't know your den number until you attend a pack
meeting),
Sam Houston Area Council
Patch,
Red/White numbers 802
World Crest (Round
purple badge with a white Fleur-de-lis)
There is a
diagram in the handbook telling where to place the patches
on the uniform. Here is a link
to a uniform inspection sheet that can also help.
These
items can be purchased online
and locally at Burdett &
Son Outdoor
Adventure Shop located next to Chili's in College Station.
Uniforms can sometimes be found on ebay, as well as at used clothing
stores.
Uniforms should
be worn to all Den Meetings, Pack Meetings, Go See
It's, and any official Pack Activity (examples are: Pinewood
Derby, Rocket Derby, the Blue & Gold Banquet, and Scouting for
Food).
New Cub Scouts
should work to earn their Bobcat Badge
right away.
Regardless of the age or rank that you join Cub Scouting, each scout
must complete the Bobcat Trail as the first step in his Cub Scouting
adventure. The requirements for the Bobcat Badge are in each scout's
handbook. Along this trail the Cub Scout learns the Cub Scout Promise, the Law of the Pack, and the Cub Scout Motto. These are the three
most important things a boy must learn because they will help him
through all of the trails of Scouting.
These are extra
achievements Cub Scouts can earn.
