Questions
Q:      Can I join Cub Scouts anytime?

A:     Yes! We have one major recruiting night in the Fall, but boys join all the time! Especially after they hear how much fun one of their buddies in the Pack is having without them...!  Just contact a Den Leader on the main page to get started.

Q:     Do I have to volunteer to be a Den Leader or something like that if my boy wants to join?

A:     No! We'd like everyone to give according to their skills and abilities. It's a lot more fun if you're helping lead your boy and molding his peers, but not everyone is cut out for that. You are expected to help your boy advance in the achievements in his book, and be an active parent at Pack meetings and Den meetings, but those are things you can bring the whole family to, especially the Pack Meetings - they are designed for the entire family! One thing we won't accept as a reason for not volunteering is the old "I don't have time" excuse. None of us do...but we make time for the boys!

Q:     Will I get help if I volunteer?

A:     Absolutely! We have an extensive training program right in our district. The Cub Scouts have developed the materials, we train you, and all you have to do is implement the program! It's easier than thinking!

Q:     How much time does Cub Scouts take?

A:     Your boy will want to do it all the time. We suggest 30 minutes a week at home with him working on his achievements in his book, and then an hour during the weeks you have Den Meetings except for the week of the Pack Meeting, when there are no Den Meetings.  The Pack Meeting lasts for 60 minutes. Then, of course, are all the neat activities and events you can do with the Den or Pack, but nothing mandatory. So figure six to eight hours a month with your boy. Not a bad deal... for you or him!

Q:     So, how much does this cost?

A:     Cub Scouts nationally asks for about 85 cents a month. Pack 455 asks for $40.00 per scout for the year. The Cub Scout can earn money through our various fundraisers during the year, and that money is kept in an account just for him. The $40.00 helps to pay for pack events, patches, and other pack related things. The fundraisers go to helping your child to pay for summer camp.

Q:     Does a boy have to have a Dad or both parents to be involved?

A:     No. Cub Scouting recognizes the unique situations each boy finds himself in, and is a perfect support structure for the family that has come across some unfortunate situation that the boy is experiencing. Moms and Dads without spouses can be involved with their boys in Cub Scouting...the program is not gender-specific at all in terms of the adult participation. Pack 455 offers a wholesome, character-based and honorable group of men and women who support boys and their parents or guardians with an atmosphere that helps instill those elements that some non-traditional situations in a boy's life may need. So, any boy can participate, and any legal guardian can stand beside him proudly as they help and support him along the Cub Scout Trail!
