Tiger Cub Scouts

Boys must earn their Bobcat badge before beginning work on the Tiger Cub rank.  Once this is earned, scouts can earn their Tiger Totem and begin work on their Tiger Cub achievements.  There are only 5 achievements that Tiger Cubs have to complete.  These 5 achievements are broken down into Family, Den and Go See It activities. Each Achievement has on Family part, one Den part and one Go See It part.  A Go See It is an outing taken with the den (a field trip). It might involve visiting a library, a fire station or an airport.  There are no performance requirements for Tiger Cubs. Boys should never be "tested" or placed in a position where they will not be successful. Simply participating in the activities and doing his best constitutes completion.

Tiger Cub Scouts are a very special group.  This group of scouts uses the concept of Shared Leadership.  Tiger Cub Scouts and their parents work together to earn their badges and totems.

So, just what is Shared Leadership?  The Tiger Cub Adult Partner (Akela) is required to attend all den meetings and Go See It activities with their scout.  While there is a Tiger Cub Den Leader who helps to coordinate activities, awards, and communication with the Pack, each Akela helps to plan and organize at least one Den Meeting and/or the coordinating Go See It.

Shared leadership is a key part of Tiger Cubs because the direct involvement of you and other adults is important for boys at this age. Shared leadership also gives each boy and adult partner a chance to lead, often resulting in an interesting variety of activities as each boy - adult partner team shares its knowledge and resources.

Tiger Cub Scout Achievements at a Glance

Tiger Cub Scouts earn one white bead for completing the Family part of an achievement, an orange bead for completing the Den part of an achievements, and one black bead for completing the Go See It part of an achivement.  These beads are hung on a leather or plastic strap attached to the Tiger Totem which is worn attached to the belt of the scout uniform.  Once a scout has earned all 15 beads, the Tiger Cub Badge will be awarded at the next pack meeting.
